Assignment 18: Group Presentation

Assignment 18: Group Presentation (ABSOLUTE LAST FINAL DRAFT)
Set: before xmas holidaysDue: Wed Jan 11

LAST PRESENTATION FOR AS MEDIA RESEARCH AND PLANNING. GRADE TO BE ISSUED END OF WEEK OR NEXT WEEK.
REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THE DRAFT IMPROVEMENT PAGES TO SHOW HOW YOU IMPROVED THE DRAFTS (post below)
You need to colour code the slides and label with name in corner. If you all contributed – make that clear.Remember to consider the research and planning marks and construction marks.

As always, the majority of this presentation should be annotated VISUALS (pictures and diagrams) and NOT a lot of writing, remember the recommended PEE/E structure.

GENRE CHOICE:       HORROR            THRILLER            DRAMA            FILM NOIR
(do not collaborate with comedy or action)

Good subgenres/collaborated genres: pyschological, suspense, sci-fi, romance

Structure your powerpoint in this format:

PART A
-Include a title page
-Assignment name and group members, colour code key
-Genre you are doing. (remember you can do subgenres)

PART B
-slide for each person that contains:
-their 3 initial individual ideas
-WWW & EBI of those 3 ideas
-which one is their strongest idea and why?
-which idea has your group taken forward and why? -how are you going to change or develop it from it's initial state

PART C
-why you have chosen this genre (if subgenre then discuss both genres)
-a little bit of information about your genre(s) with examples
-conventions of this/these genre with examples

PART D
-What are some films that you watched and got inspired by? (can take some from genre partner project) (these films should relate to your chosen genre)
-what specifically was inspirational to you? (use print screens for this)

PART E
-What is your chosen theme for your opening sequence?  (example = addiction, conflict, obsession, etc.)
-show a brainstorm of ideas for your opening sequence (you need to show at least 3 different ideas with brainstorms)
-identify the main idea you have chosen and explain why this is the best one

PART F
-complete in depth research of the topic and/or theme that you have chosen to do, this research should be presented in a clear yet informative way. It should show you have knowledge and insight into this topic.  (example you can’t make an opening sequence about eating disorders without knowing and understanding the disorder)
-research can include written text, photographs, video interviews, etc Try to explore different platforms

PART G
-what are the conventions of your genre (if subgenre then must do both) – put in a clear chart
-what conventions are you USING? Provide evidence: how are you going to do this?
-what conventions are you DEVELOPING? Provide evidence: how are you going to do this?
-what conventions are you CHALLENGING? Provide evidence: how are you going to do this?

PART H
-Who are the actors and characters (try not to have more than 3 characters because it is unreliable) 1-2 is best
-what do the characters represent? (think of stereotypes)  consider how mise-en-scene (costume/prop/make-up/body language/gesture etc) represent those characters

PART I
-locations and settings: you should have a variety of REAL pictures of these to show you have planned this. Try to get a range of angles of these locations

PART J
-How are you going to create enigma in your opening sequence? (in other words: what are you going to do at the end of your opening sequence for the audience to make them want to watch the rest of the film?  (consider genre and it's purpose: example: thriller = create tension and climax at the end, drama = introduce a character and provide an introduction to story)

PART K
-In 5 brief bullet points, what will happen in the whole film (on 1 or 2 ideas)
-In 5 brief bullet points, what will happen in the opening sequence (on 1 or 2 ideas)
(remember an opening sequence is an introduction, don't give away too much and you should create enigma)

PART L
-complete a full storyboard for your opening sequence (remember EVERY SHOT)
(remember all the filming techniques – 180 rule, camera shots, movement, angles, composition, editing techniques, pace etc.)
-when storyboard complete, complete a full shotlist for your opening sequence (remember EVERY SHOT and use chart for this)

PART M
-complete a full script for your opening sequence using the correct format

PART N
-How are you applying the theories of TORODOV? If you are no then you must explain why and why you are not applying his theory.

PART O
-How are you applying the theories of PROP? If you are no then you must explain why and why you are not applying his theory.

PART P
-How are you applying the theories of STRAUSS? If you are no then you must explain why and why you are not applying his theory.

PART Q
-who is your target audience? (age, gender, hobbies, interests, lifestyle, location, social class etc)
-get feedback from your target audience about your ideas and show the results
-complete questionnaires from your target audience about your ideas or details of your ideas
-could take photographs of these interviews to document the process
-could complete video interviews with your target audience instead of written component - could even use this in documentary
-how are you going to make an documentary which is interesting to your target audience? (through FORM and CONVENTIONS)

PART R
-what film distribution company would you use and why

PART S
-What would your film be rated and how are you meeting the BBFC standards?

PART T
-describe with evidence, the style of titling and credits – THESE NEED TO BE IN YOUR STORYBOARD!

PART U
-music and sounds: remember it is either from copyright free source or made yourself in Garageband)
PART V
-consideration of evaluation questions (that you can answer)
